KEEP THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING

Paul narrowed it down to one thing in Philippians 3:13.

“…I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.”

This makes me think of when the Israelites were going into the Promise Land. They sent the 12 spies into the land, but 10 of the spies came back and began to spread a negative report. Why? They were focused on the wrong thing. They were focused on the past. They would rather go back to slavery in Egypt than trust God for the promise land! They said things like, "There are giants in the land (truth) and we look like grass hoppers to them (lie)."

Numbers 14:1-4, “Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night.² Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. “If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they complained. ³ “Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?” ⁴ Then they plotted among themselves, “Let’s choose a new leader and go back to Egypt!”(NLT)

They wanted to go back to slavery and would rather die than stay focused on the promise of God! I just feel like right now I need to tell you that God is about to do a new thing! Your greatest days are ahead! The devil might have told you that your best days are behind you, but that’s not what God says!

Isaiah 43:18-19, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. ¹⁹ See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”(NIV)

Is your life dry? Do you fee like you are going through crap?

Only God can make a way in the desert.

Only God can make a fresh water stream in the middle of the sewage of life.

God’s doing a new thing! The best is yet to come! It’s time to put the past behind you.
