There’s a lot I could share about how to make this your best year but I will share with you a few thoughts that I believe will make a significant difference.
My prayer for you is that a year from now you will look back and see all that God did in your life and the victories that you’ve experienced!
Most of you probably know that I wrote a book called I AM – Encounter the One Who Gives You Purpose and Peace in a Crazy World. The book is based on the seven I Am statements of Jesus that we see in the gospel of John. And at the end of the book, I share thirty-one I Am statements that we can declare over our lives every day. You can download all thirty-one of the I AM declarations for free at www.mattfry.com
So, if you want to make 2020 the best year ever do these three things:
1. Take Negative Thoughts Captive!
Surround yourself with people who are positive. Put people in your life that will speak potential over you not negativity. And when the devil tries to fill your mind with thoughts like, “I am an idiot, I am a mistake, I am not good enough or I am a failure, take those thoughts captive!
Check out what the Bible says in 2 Corinthians:
2 Corinthians 10:5, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (NIV)
Every day the devil tries to fill my head will negative thoughts and I have learned to identify them and then take them captive. The devil has no power over you!
2. Take Off The Labels the Devil Put On You!
Sometimes the devil's lies take root in our mind and they become our label. For example, one of the lies the devil put in my mind when I was seven years old was that I was just “average." I remember in the second grade being put in the average reading group and I believed the lie for years that I wasn’t very smart. The teacher didn’t do anything wrong. It was the devil that planted that thought and that thought became a label.
What label has the devil tried to put on you? You may have heard negative words from a parent, a coach or a teacher. You may have had negative words spoken over you by a former friend or family member. Don’t let those labels stick! Right now, take that label off and give it to God! He never intended for you to go throughout your life with those labels!
3. Declare Who God Says You Are!
You never want to get rid of something without replacing it. If you empty something out then you need to fill it up with something different. In other words, if we take the labels off the devil can come back and try to put them back on. God’s Word is filled with powerful statements declaring who you are!
We should never find our identity in our past mistakes or failures. We should never find our identity in what we do, our title, our position or even our successes. The revelation God gave me was that when I encounter the Great I Am, that’s when I discover who I am!
So, this year take one declaration every day and declare that over your life beginning in the morning and throughout the day. As I was studying God’s Word, I found thirty-one I am declarations that I felt were powerful for me personally. I have a reminder on my phone and my computer reminding me every morning what that declaration is for that day. (You can download the reminders as well for free on www.mattfry.com ) For example, on the first day of every month I declare: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” There is so much power in taking off these labels and then declaring who God says you are!
Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (NIV)
I declare that this is a year of victory for you! And even if your circumstances don’t change, you will experience the most blessed year you’ve ever had! Always remember that you are loved by God and He is with you and He is for you!
